For great skin – morning and night!

Brushing your teeth is not the only personal hygiene routine you should be performing twice a day.  For glowing, healthy skin, you should be starting and ending your day with some facial “TLC”.  But a morning and evening routine each have a specific purpose and, to achieve the best results, should be tailored accordingly.

Evening routine

Your skin rejuvenates at night while you sleep, and as you need to prepare it to benefit from this restorative period, your evening routine is by far the most important.  A good routine follows several steps that will provide your skin with the care needs to keep it looking radiant.

Step 1 – Cleanse

It’s vitally important to remove any dirt and oil that has built up on the skin during the day.

Using a product like Sebamed’s Micellar Water not only removes make-up effectively but mattifies the skin and helps prevent premature ageing by protecting it against harsh environmental factors (like pollution).  It’s gentle enough to use around the sensitive eye area while providing a deep cleanse that is dermatologically balanced at pH5.5.

Step 2 – Deep cleanse

Once the surface of your skin is clean, it’s time to do a deep dive into the layers below.

Whether you’re using a specialised Face Cleansing Bar or liquid soap, always ensure that it is gentle enough for facial skin while providing a deep clean for your pores.  Using the incorrect product on your face can lead to dry skin and exacerbate underlying issues like sensitivity and eczema.

Keep an eye out for products that contain amino acids, vitamins and are balanced at pH5.5 to give your skin’s acid mantle a boost.

If you’re looking for an extra-deep cleanse, try a “leave-on” product like Sebamed’s Antibacterial Cleansing Foam.  With Montaline C40 to combat bacteria and Panthenol to soothe irritated and inflamed skin, a 5-minute treatment will leave your face feeling soft and supple.

Step 3 – Warm Compress

You shouldn’t need a spa day to give your skin a little extra love.  Gentle warmth performs wonders for your delicate facial skin, and once it’s squeaky clean, we recommend you take 5 and enjoy a warm compress to soothe and relax – not just the skin but your mind and soul too!

Step 4 – Exfoliate

If you’ve followed the evening routine steps until now, exfoliating may feel like overkill, however, it comes with some vital perks.

It increases cell turnover (leaving skin more radiant), stimulates collagen synthesis (improving the texture of your skin), boosts circulation (improving oxygen-rich blood flow to your face), and increases the penetration of other skincare products.

Sebamed’s Gentle Scrub is perfect for this step.  We recommend using it two times a week.

Step 5 – Toner

By now your face should be feeling clean, fresh and plump.  Once you’ve removed all the surface and below-the-surface impurities, the perfect way to end off the cleansing regime is by soothing your face with a toner.

Used to reduce irritation and redness, preparing your skin for moisturising, our Facial Toner contains Panthenol which supports the regeneration of your skin, with Witch Hazel, Silk Protein and Allantoin to soothe and smooth it.

Step 6 – Moisturise

There are many evening moisturisers available, and the selection can seem overwhelming.

As a rule of thumb, we suggest using a rich, anti-ageing moisturiser at night, as it not only gives your skin what it needs, but you don’t have to worry about your skin looking shiny while you’re sleeping.  This leaves you free to use a lighter cream that mattifies the skin while you’re out and about during the day.

First apply your base cream, such as Night Intensive Cream (for dry skin), a product containing Vitamin E, like our Moisturising Cream (for sensitive skin), or an anti-ageing cream such as Wrinkle Filler or Q10 Protection Cream.

The delicate skin around your eyes might require a little extra love, and for this, you’d need a specialised eye cream formulated specifically to improve elasticity and smoothness.

Morning routine

Morning routines should be quick and simple, and if you’re following an intensive evening care regime like the one outlined above, a splash of warm water, a gentle pat dry, toner and moisturiser are all that is required to get you going.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more intensive to highlight the gains from your evening routine, you can add a speedy Micellar Water treatment or quick cleanse before toning.

When applying a morning moisturiser (such as Sebamed’s anti-pollution Day Cream), it’s best to allow it to absorb for a couple of minutes before applying your eye cream and SPF.  (Yes – SPF is a must, even if your face cream already contains one.)

For best results

By setting up a consistent morning and evening routine, you are providing your skin with the care it needs to keep looking its best.
