The Importance of Exfoliating!

How to exfoliate properly and what are the benefits.

Some skincare Sebamed tips about exfoliation.

Who doesn’t dream of flawless, glowing and healthy skin?! Exfoliation is one way to improve your skin and achieve that “Flawless glow” you’ve always craved. It’s important to know what exfoliating is, how to do it properly  and what the benefits are.

What is exfoliation?

Exfoliation is the removal of dead surface skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin.

Many people think they only need to exfoliate when they have acne or acne-prone skin and should avoid it if they have sensitive skin. In reality, exfoliation is safe for every skin type, but you need to pay attention to how your skin reacts in order to determine the appropriate frequency of your exfoliation.

Aside from removing dry and dead skin, exfoliating increases your skin’s radiance, clarity, and youthfulness, and healthiness.

Unclogs Pores

Removing dead surface cells and other debris from the skin helps to clean out your pores. This effectively prevents the formation of whiteheads and blackheads.

Prevents Acne And Helps With Breakouts

Unclogging your pores not only prevents whiteheads and blackheads, it also puts a halt to other blemishes—namely acne.

Evens Skin Tone And Texture

Exfoliants help to break down dead skin while at the same time smoothing its overall texture, making the skin appear more uniform over time.

Improve Moisture Absorption

Regular exfoliating will ensure you are reaping the benefits of your regular skin and sun care routine.

Prepare Skin For Other Products

Finally, removing the top layer of damaged and dead surface cells allows other products like moisturizers and serums to absorb better into the skin.

Reduces The Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles And Helps Stimulate Synthesis.

The newly exposed layer of skin reflects light better, fine lines and wrinkles can become less visible. Exfoliating helps to stimulate collagen synthesis to improve the skin’s texture, integrity, and keep the skin looking plump, tight, and young.

How to Exfoliate Your Face

Start by washing your face with your regular cleanser. The Sebamed Anti-Bacterial Cleansing Foam is a great cleanser.

  • It prevents and combats blackheads and pimples and restores the skin’s balance
  • For all forms of acne with inflamed pimples
  • The pH 5.5 promotes the natural barrier function of the skin’s acid mantle

Then, take a quarter-size amount of your face scrub and apply it onto your face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Gently massage the product onto the skin for as long as your specific product recommends, usually from 30 seconds to a full minute. The Sebamed Clear Face Gentle Scrub is a great exfoliating product.

  • Gentle pore deep cleansing reduces skin impurities
  • Removes dirt particles, excessive sebum, and dead skin cells on your face
  • Refines the complexion and mattifies the skin

Then, rinse off with warm water and gently pat your skin with a clean towel. Follow with a hydrating mask, serum or cream. The Sebamed Mattifying Cream is a great product to use after exfoliating. It prevents and combats blackheads and pimples and restores the skin’s balance for acne combined with oily skin.

Also take care not to overdo it, as over exfoliation will result in the very conditions that you were aiming to treat.
