Product and Skin

What makes Sebamed different from other skincare brands

Sebamed is built on one core principle: healthy skin starts with the right pH.

All Sebamed products are formulated at pH 5.5, which is the natural pH of healthy skin. This helps support and protect the skin’s acid mantle – its natural barrier against dryness, irritation, and harmful bacteria.

Sebamed is rooted in medical skincare science, combining:

  • Dermatologist-developed formulations
  • High-quality ingredients with proven efficacy
  • Extensive clinical testing

This science-first approach ensures high skin tolerance, especially for sensitive or problematic skin.

Is Sebamed suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes –  Sebamed is specifically designed for sensitive and problematic skin and is widely recognised as a specialist in sensitive skin care.

All products are formulated to:

  • Support the skin’s natural barrier
  • Avoid irritation
  • Maintain optimal skin balance

What does “pH 5.5” mean?

pH 5.5 means slightly acidic and corresponds to the skin’s natural acid mantle. If the skin is cleansed and cared for with products that have this pH, this supports the protective function against dehydration as well as irritants and pollutants. pH 5.5 also stabilises the healthy balance of the skin microbiome. In combination with particularly well-tolerated moisturising ingredients, sebamed effectively protects skin health, as proven by over 400 scientific studies.

Are Sebamed products dermatologist tested?

Yes – every Sebamed product is clinically and dermatologically tested.

The brand follows a strict “quality through research” philosophy, with:

  • Over 120 clinical studies confirming efficacy and tolerability
  • Testing focused specifically on sensitive and problematic skin
  • Continuous collaboration with dermatologists and scientific experts

Can I use Sebamed if I have acne or eczema?

Sebamed products are suitable for problematic and sensitive skin conditions, including acne and eczema-prone skin.

The formulations are designed to:

  • Support the skin’s natural healing processes
  • Maintain the acid mantle
  • Reduce irritation and dryness

Many products are also used as supportive care alongside dermatological treatments, helping to improve overall skin condition and comfort.

Are Sebamed products safe for babies and children?

Yes – Sebamed has dedicated ranges for baby and children’s skin, which is naturally more delicate and sensitive.

Baby skin:

  • Has a weaker protective barrier
  • Loses moisture more easily
  • Is more prone to irritation

What is Sebameds position on animal testing?

All of our sebamed products are created completely without animal testing and are tested exclusively on humans in clinical dermatological studies that follow strict ethical criteria. We are against animal testing of cosmetic products and their ingredients because we are certain that there have long been better alternatives. The relevant EU Cosmetics Regulation has prohibited animal testing for over 10 years. We also have our raw material suppliers confirm strict compliance with this regulation

Why does soap damage the skin?

Soap is not acidic, but forms an alkaline solution (pH 8 – 12), which attacks and weakens the skin’s natural protective layer. This increases the risk of the skin drying out and causing unpleasant skin reactions or damage.

My skin feels tight and dry after showering, why?

Detergents that are too aggressive and contain soap attack the skin’s protective layer and therefore promote dehydration. Mild, soap-free shower products with pH 5.5 maintain the skin’s moisture balance and barrier function – for skin that feels good after showering.
